Okay. I'm moving to this new area. The only reason we are moving there is to move near my pawpaw's house. We would build a totally larger house next door. Swimming pool and everything. No one else in that area has one. Our house would be the only new house in that area. But then again, about a mile away are all these really expensive houses like ours wouls be. I think I'd rather move there to fit in with our houses large size. Even though my house would be large, would I look poor living in that area??

who cares! How people perceive you and the amount of money your family has should be the least of your concerns. Try working on your personality don't be so shallow. Where ever you go someone will have more then you. As I said WHO CARES. Be happy with what you have and be thankful you have a home to live in.

NO you don't look poor you look ignorant and shallow. Your moving to be near family WHO CARES

That depends on whether the area a mile a way is up and coming - meaning that your paw's neighborhood is becoming part of that; or if your paw's neighborhood is forcing people in the neighborhood a mile away to become smaller and poorer. Obviously if you are in an up and coming neighborhood, it wont matter if you look poor, your property value will soar once the better neighborhood moves there. Finally, who cares if you look poor? What I would be worried about is how safe the neighborhood is. If it is save, build away!

Generally speaking, you do not want the most expensive house in a given area. Especially if the other houses are substantially smaller than the one you are building. The resale value of your house will be diminished by the surrounding homes.

Similarly, you do not want the smallest or least expensive house in an neighborhood. Often, it is harder to sell such a house later.

No.......... where you live, and what the surrounding area is like is always more important then the size of your house. Sure, the house may look small compared to the others, but everyony will know that you are still living in a nicer area and that is more important as far as your property value.

Who cares how you "look"? The questions become: Am I moving to a neighborhood with a lower crime rate? Am I moving to neighborhood with better schools? Am I moving to neighborhood I feel most comfortable? Most of the time the people that we are trying to impress really don't give a damned one way or the other. Do what's best for you and your family.

While you wouldn't neccesarily look poor, you'd be the rich folks of the neighborhood. This situation will definitely cost you if you resell the house, versus reselling in th upscale neighborhood.

I think you are way too vain and need to realize that you are moving to be near a loved one and not to impress with your pocketbook or bank account.
