Archana, you have to get things right in the first place.
The body is composed of five elements. The body harbours mind which is the repository of knowledge acquired and some inherited.
The body is churned into action by atma(soul) which is a divine element and a microcosm of pramatama(supreme God).We perform duties and in doing so we get pain and pleasure. This is watched by the representative of the supreme( Soul). When we die the soul leaves the body and merges with the supreme and the body is disintegrated into the elements it is composed of.
We suffer because of our deeds whether in this birth or the previous birth or/and both.

i don't know the quote , but thinking about it the answer is in the last part of the sentance.
Should we put an If and tack it onto the sentence as the first word ,it becomes a question answerable .
the fact that we do suffer makes the fore part obsolete.
" I think therefor i am" would be
for eg
" God thinks therefor i am not."
We do think,
We are created in his image, the Bible tells us,and if we were not given freedom of choice ,no one would suffer, we would all be mindless robots.
my mind ,as of everyone else alive , is unique ,
Abusers have a choice
the abused has a choice to seek wellness.
when i see a tree in summer ,i take a leaf and turn my back to the tree. Then i look at the leaf, knowing that it is different from all other leaves. Turn around now and look at the tree, its amazing.
so are we.
Why then if our minds and bodies are not of us ,but a concept would we need to be different or could we achieve this difference .
why do we suffer bodily harm and death if our bodies are not our own
"cut me do I not Bleed" feel pain .
Concept or not , that is not empirical and cannot be proven one way or the other.
but
We live, we choose, we hurt and are hurt, we feel love, pain and fear etc
therefor we suffer .
therefore we seek help.
to say otherwise would disempower us to do that, rendering a feeling of worthlessness , uselessness and more to the point of the statement , Helplessness .

.Paint is inescapable but suffering is your choice. When a person has physical damage, pain is one thing he cannot escape and it can be treated. When he/she chooses to suffer mentally because of real or imagined pain of life, it is there choice.
One who can avoid suffering is one who belives that he/she owns his body and mind and can control for better and happier live

The body is ours and the mind is ours. God lives in us. The soul never dies.
We suffer when the body gets hurt and the mind is disturbed.
If the body was not yours then pricking a needle will not hurt you.but it does so you tell me?

Dear Sir,
From where did you get this statement of life? Or ourself?
I want to see things from a different angle altogether.
THE REAL CULPRIT IS THE “LANGUAGE”
NOBODY(INCLUDING AVATHARS OF RAMA,KRISHNA ,JESUS,MOHAMMED AND OTHERS) KNOWS THE REAL BOUNDARY LINE BETWEEN THE BODY AND THE MIND,BUT LANGUAGES CREATED FOR CONVENIENCE OF COMMUNICATION ,HAVE TAKEN POSSESSION OF ALL THE SUBJECTS OF THE WORLD INCLUDING BODY,MIND,INTELLECT,GOD,SELF,ATMAN,BRAHMAN ETC.
BIOLOGICALLY WE KNOW WHERE FROM THE BODY COMES AND WHERE IT GOES. BUT,WE DO NOT KNOW THE EXACT ORIGIN, EXISTENCE AND DEPARTURE OF THE SO CALLED MIND EXCEPT THAT IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DOWITH THE ORGAN CALLED BRAIN.
CAN WE COMPARE THE “BODY AND MIND” TO THE “ELECTRICAL CODUCTOR AND ELECTRICITY” ?
WHEN CURRENT FLOWS THROUGH THE CONDUCTOR,THE CURRENT FLOW IS IN THE MANIFESTED FORM.
WHEN THE CURRENT FLOW THROUGH THE CONDUCTOR IS STOPPED ,THE CURRENT FLOW IS IN THE UNMANIFESTED FORM AS FAR AS THE CONDUCTOR IS CONCERNED ,BUT IT IS MANIFESTED ELSEWHERE NEAR THE SWITCH OR THE FUSE.
BUT, IN THE CASE OF “BODY AND MIND” COMBINATION ,THE MIND IS MANIFESTED IN THE BRAIN ONLY,DURING THE THREE STAGES OF “WAKING,SLEEPING AND DREAMING”STATES. THERE IS NO WAY TO SEPARATE THE BODY(SEAT OF BRAIN) FROM THE MIND, UNTIL DEATH OCCURS, EXACT COURSE OF WHICH IS ALSO DEBATABLE WITH THE LIMITED KNOWKEDGE OF HUMAN BEINGS(BRAINS).
NOW,COMING TO YOUR QUERY, YOU HAVE SIMPLY EXPRESSED YOUR STATEMENT(BORROWED?) USING THE LANGUAGE.
BETWEEN BODY AND MIND,
BODY IS VISIBLE AND SEEN ,SUBJECTED TO THE THREE STAGES OF ARRIVAL,EXISTENCE AND DISPOSAL, WHERE AS MIND IS PRESUMED TO BE THOUGHTS EMANATING FROM THE BRAIN , WHICH HANDLES THE COMMUNICATION PROCESSES BOTHWAYS WITH THE ENTIRE BLOCK OF ATOMS AND MOLECULES OF ALL THE ORGANS OF THE BODY,INCLUDING THE BRAIN.
BODY IS SOMETHING WHICH HAS A FORM AND NAME (COURTESY OF ANY LANGUAGE).
MIND HAS NO FORM BUT A NAME (COURTESY OF ANY LANGUAGE).
BODY HAS A PHYSICAL EXISTENCE/PRESENCE.
MIND HAS ONLY IMAGINARY POSITION,AS POSITION FOR IMAGINATION ITSELF IS IMAGINARY.
WHEREFROM ,OURSELF OR YOURSELF HAS COME? FROM LANGUAGE? OUT OF COURTESY AND CONVENIENCE?
IF BODY IS NOT OURS, AND
IF MIND IS NOT OURS, THEN WHAT IS “OURS” CALLED?
WHAT IS PAIN? HOW IT IS FELT? BY WHOM WHEN “OURS” DOES NOT EXIST?.
WE FEEL THE PAIN. THEREFORE,WE EXIST. WE ARE REPRESENTED BY THE PHYSICAL BODY AND IMAGINARY MIND(THOUGHTS/FEELINGS) OF THE BRAIN.
THEREFORE,THE STATEMENT” we believe that our body is not ours ,our mind is not ours ,ourself is only a concept, then why do we suffer?” IS NOT CORRECT.
IT IS CERTAIN THE BODY EXISTS.
THE MIND(THOUGHTS/FEELINGS) IMAGINED BY THE BRAIN TO EXIST ,BECAUSE OF THE
HIGH VOLUME OF COMMUNICATION TRAFFIC ENCOUNTERED BETWEEN THE BRAIN AND
THE VARIOUS ORGANS OF THE BODY INCLUDING THE BRAIN.
DUE TO LIMITATIONS OF COGNISANCE OF THE BRAIN BEYOND ANY FURTHER,
WE CONCLUDE FOR THE PRESENT THAT WE ARE THE CUSTODIAN OF OUR
BODY AND MIND AND WE DO SUFFER WHEN OUR BODY AND MIND SUFFERS.
HOPE,I HAVE CLARIFIED YOUR QUERY WITH SUFFICIENT ANALYSIS.
THANK YOU.
.
