I have a good friend who lives there and she loves it, but she's an executive with an investment firm so she can afford a nice big condo right on the beach. According to her, the weather is usually nice but very hot and humid in the summer, and you do have to contend with the occasional hurricane. She really likes the night life and the Cuban/Mexican/Hispanic culture (especially the cuisine), so if that appeals to you I say go for it.

It's not a place to raise a family. It's always humid, people don't acknowledge you, even if they are your neighbors, drivers are extremely selfish and aggressive, prices are high, roads are totally overfilled and cause anxiety due to being stuck in traffic, car insurance is 300 a month for me even tho I have never had a ticket, HIV is the highest in the country, it's great to visit for a few weeks for vacation, but I am getting the he'll out of this state as soon as I have my saving!

Traffic is crazy... Generally, the western suburbs are nicer... Westin, Tamarac, Sunrise, etc. I used to live in Inverrary Gardens (Lauderhill)... Good luck! Email me if you've any specific questions/concerns... I liked living in Fort Lauderdale! The cost of living is quite high, but there's always something to do (atleast the beach if nothing else)...

cost of living is high, weather is nice (no snow : ) but it's very congested (try about 4 million people between dade/broward counties) everyone that I know that visits wants to move here right away, if you're willing to adapt to different cultures and learn spanish then i guess this is the place for you.

don't listen to these people, it really nice here always something to do I've been living here for over 20yrs. There's crime everywhere we go and as for hurricanes we rarely get hit by them. The only thing is the cost of living is getting a little ridiculous.

I live in Hollywood Fl and am a police officer with the HPD. If you want to move to FL move to Dania or Hollywood. Nice people, good weather, and pretty good schools for kids.
Last you can never be bored here. :]

It can be. The pros are good weather, always something to do, the beach but the cons are high cost of living, jobs don t pay well, traffic is bad and Miami is a very superficial city.
