Why are slippers so maligned? Why are they considered to be unfashionable, or just for older people?

I'm not old, and I love wearing my slippers, particularly traditional "carpet slippers" made of corduroy or checked wool with elasticated gussets. They are cheap, very comfy and I think they look great! The fluffy or furry varieties look great on women...

I'd wear them all the time if I could, both indoors and outside! Anyone else agree, or disagree?

It's like i always say to my family, if other people don't think it's 'cool' for you to wear a hat and scarf outdoors in the winter (some people critse others about it) then if you catch a cold who will suffer? I wear slippers all the time at home so do my family no matter how old. They're comfortable and there are a lot of nice styles, plus when it's cold you're less likely to become ill.

My wife wore slippers at our wedding reception, and she did a heck of a lot better than I did -- my feet were KILLING me by the end of the night (lousy rental shoes) but she was fine. Now, her slippers were more like ballet slippers, so they went very well with her dress...I think she would have received many strange looks if she was wearing carpet slippers just because it's not an accepted practice to wear carpet slippers anywhere other than in your own house. Not sure why that is...heck, it's easier with guys because we wear what's comfortable, and if you can't look at what we're wearing and keep your lunch down that's YOUR problem, not ours.

I absolutely adore slippers, but they have their places. At home.
It looks really junky to wear ratty slippers to say, a grocery store, or Target or something. I feel bad for the people that do that, because they don't realize what image they are projecting...however, if you have some really nice, (possibly expensive, like uggs or something) slippers that are durable & cute, they might be ok.

What?!! Are you telling me that the much-beloved fluffy white slippers with stuffed-toy penguins on that currently adorn my feet aren't cool? I've only had them a few months, bought to replace my fluffy pink cow slippers which sadly wore out and had to be put down.

I LOVE my slippers, I have several pairs and I'd wear them all the time too if I could. I also love my pyjamas. There's nothing better than to snuggle up in your cosiest slippers and pyjamas in front of a blazing fire when its freezing cold outside and your indoors all snuggly and warm!

wooohoooo you go!!!!!! I love my slippers. I too would love to wear them other places besides home. WE can't wear them at work because of health and safety laws. Slippers Rock. And I consider myself to be young as well.
