Fire the whole marketing department and start over. Besides that, the league needs to be on a major sports station, make sure the teams play a more balanced schedule so the fans get to see all the superstars, and reallign divisions to create more division rivalries. Just an example on the divisions that makes the NHL so dumb lies in Minnesota. The Wild have sold out every game since their existence and live in maybe the most rabid hockey state in the nation. They play in the Pacific division so all the other teams are on pacific time as opposed to central time which Minnesota is in. Therefore, when the Wild play a road game within the division, the fans have to wait until 9-9:30 central time to watch their team. Contrastly, when the other teams come to Minnesota, the fans on the west coast have to get home at 5-5:30 pacific time to watch their team. Very inconvenient both ways. This wouldn't be as big of problem if the unbalanced schedule didn't force the divisional teams to play each other every other game. Minnesota isn't the only case, but if you look around the league you can see they have a bunch of idiots running the league right now.

Get back on ESPN, get real people covering the games, then LEAVE IT ALONE. Stop messing with the game and the rules. Don't add or move teams around. We have already seen that you don't really get new fans. That people finally take notice and then it gets big there. Changing rules around just alienates the old fans, and doesn't bring in new ones. Getting it back on a major network like ESPN would help though. Getting better people to cover the games would help too.

The NHL needs to quit screwing around with the rules. Each year they change those darn rules! They could also lower ticket prices. A good marketing campaign also wouldn't hurt. Something along those lines of what Kraft Canada did last season with the "Hockeyville" thing....they need to do stuff like that. Players need to be more approachable and sign autographs, etc....

Instead of promoting and trying to expand in the south. Go back to the roots aka Canada. They love the game and just means more games to sell-out in the rink. You, can't expect a team in the south to be all serious about a club when they dont even get snow in the winter. It's common sense yet Bettman think's otherwise(profit).

HANG BETTMAN FROM A STRONG NOOSE AT THE START OF THE PLAYOFFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or maybe kidnap him, fly him to russia and dump him there. that way he can screw up the entire Russian hockey program, and not only will the NHL be better off, but we won't have to worry about Russia internationally either.

they just need to sell the game on TV and show the new fans what hockey is all about. make more commercials and just put it everywhere you look on billboards the Radio TV.

THE NHL MADE ALLOT OF MONEY LAST YEAR THAT WHY THE SALARY CAP HAS WENT UP TO $44 MILLION FROM LAST YEARS $38 MILLION CAP, WITH THAT MONEY THEY SHOULD OF ADVERTISE THE LEAGUE WAY MORE WITH ALL THAT MONEY THEY JUST MADE. that's what i would of done.

Fix the schedule, get a good TV contract, eliminate a couple of teams, and send two others back to Canada.

CHEAPER TICKETS.

Actually, I think you need to re-word your question. Most hockey fans ARE into it... provided their team is not in the basement. The problem is getting new fans, moreso than getting the ones they have "into it."

That said, hockey tickets are way over-priced.

Get back to the basics. Get rid of this overtime and shoot outs. If the game end in a tie so be it.
