But, they still immigrate here or want our help when trouble occurs. I find them to be cowards.

Jealousy - They wish they had the freedoms we enjoy everyday.

Envy - The USA is one of the youngest countries, yet one of the most powerful.

Greed - They want our wealth, and so attack us for not giving it to them.

Hatred - They hate the Constitution for being based on biblical precepts and that the Founding Fathers were all Christian.

There are tons more, but those are just a few to get you started.

This is what we've got going with illegal immigrants. It's a psychological term called Hostile Dependency and most often refers to the parent/teen child relationship. But I believe that it applies here in a larger sense.

Here's more information on hostile dependency:
http://shrinkwrapped.blogs.com/blog/2005/09/the_hostile_dep.html

Essentially, the teen feels weak and frustrated. To help the child feel better, the parent provides even more for the child (they pay for a car, an apartment, pay off the adult child's credit card) which leads the teen/adult child to feel even more powerless and more hostile. The child takes their frustration out on the parent and so they go round and round with the result being arrested development for the kid and a lot of agony for the parent.

The solution is to provide less - to help the child care for themselves, to ask them with compassion "Wow! That sounds like a tough spot to be in. What are you going to do about it?" and realize it is often a case of sink or swim - as scary as that is for the parent.

But it's why today we have so many adults still living at home with parents while verbally bashing the parents on YA. The parents are terrified of letting go because they feel the consequences facing their child are too severe, but by rescuing the teen/adult child over and over it simply perpetuates the cycle and keeps that child perpetually young and dependent.

It's why so many people bash the U.S. They resent the dependency they have on the U.S.

It's why I like non-profits that reward people for their independence. The ones that teach people how to plant a garden, how to find work, etc. I admire Oprah greatly because that's what she's doing in Africa.

We need government programs that reward independence.

It's very frightening when the world is against the decisions made by your presiding president and his administration. We (our administration) have made some very poor decisions that have effected us and tens of thousands of people across the globe.
When a nation is one of the most powerful in the world, it's going to be criticized. I think that the people who immigrate here genuinely want to be here and I think that those who ask for our help genuinely need our help. I actually think it takes a lot of courage to ask for another nation's help. Iraq did not ask for our help and we invaded it under faulty intelligence. They might think we're the cowards in the end. I guess it all depends on your perspective. Have a good one!

Most "people" from outside the USA don't understand the USA and therefore are easily manipulated by what their media, government, and textbooks portray us to be. Jealousy could be an issue for foreign governments and civilians I suppose, but that can not be proven. What can be proven is that America is the youngest and most successful country in existence. America's success lies in the hopes and dreams of our Founding Fathers and in the Constitution in which none other compare.

Immigration is not what it used to be. Immigrants came to America to escape adversity and to achieve goals in a free society that said their opinion matters. That's not the way it is now. In general terms, many come here now seeking a hand out from a government that tells them they will supply to them all their needs. They tend to offer nothing of significance to the development or advancement of this country, BUT that's another issue in itself.

Think of us as the corporate world my friend. People hate "the man" and trash talk the rich jerk until they meet him/her face to face then its all fun and games. They are all buddy buddy and want to be your friend instantly. Then when things go wrong all they want is to distance themselves or sue you for everything. Double standards and jeolousy. Thats the world towards us in a nut shell. We are arrogant, yes, but we have earned it. Look at what we have accomplished in the 250 years we have been here. Look at what the rest of the world has accomplished in the thousands of years they have been around. It took the hearts, souls and minds of migrant workers, immigrants and slaves to develop this nation into what it is today in a reletively short time period. Think about it, the horse was the mainstay of travel for thousands of years. It took our nation 150 years from the time we became a nation to revolutionize this entire planet. Sorry I am rambling on but I love this country very much and so does my family so much that we have all(the males) served in the armed forces since our recorded family history.

For the same reason people hate the NY Yankees. Think about it, people love to hate the Yankees bc they are so good. They are good bc they have money, they have money bc they respect their fans and the game. They are generally a class act and better than everyone else. But they are still the most hated team in baseball. That and the pessimestic media covering everything bad and nothing good. You know so may countries appreciate us but if Venezuela hates us that is news for a month. Could go on and on, mostly jealousy and a negative liberal media.

you cant put ALL foreigners in one group! youd b hard pressed to find a despereate illiterate mexican (wannabe) immagrant who hates america for its (lack of) actions on global warming, for example, although you seem to think that the world is full of them. both of these opinions youve described are american stereotypes. i dont have much against americans, but youre very wrong if you think im gagging to come and enjoy the american dream. im actuly quite happy where i am. and also THATS EXACTLY THE POINT, we dont want your political intervention! thats just what your government/schools tell you. 'and then we went in and saved those poor incompetant foreigners, go us!'

in case you dont already know, the iraqi people DONT appreciate you 'liberating them' and giving them 'democracy', they were better off before!

I think you'll find that 99% don't emigrate there. The most powerful country or Empire has the most responsibility (temporarily), enjoy it now, the world's majority will be slamming China w/in a couple of years and the slide (or fall if rapid) from pre-eminence will be the real test of your self professed 'bravery.'

The whole world is not this way. When I go to China, people are always saying nice things about it- even usually on TV and in the press. If you want to be treated nicely, go to China they seem to love Americans.

Actually, for the most part it is Americans who slam the US. Apparently the grass is always greener on the other side.
