There are numerous things you could do. You could change the internals (for pistons, get high compression if you plan on going all motor, but get low compression ones if you plan on a turbo or supercharger), get aftermarket headers, bigger exhaust (SLIGHTLY bigger, 2.5" TOPS), replace the fuel system, aftermarket intake with a nice filter on it like AEM or K&N, Port&Polished head, or even a K series swap, although i see no point in that if i'm correct in thinking that you already have an H22.

As for the exterior, for starters, I would get Z3 fenders, projector headlights, Sylvannia bulbs, black euro taillights, front & rear lip kit, side skirts, and once you're done with the exterior, new paint (pearlescant, maybe?).

Here are some sites for some of the items stated above:

Which year is your Type-R? I know the old ones were F20 DOHC and i think yours is a H22? Anyway, if thats the motor, you are starting off with a good platform. the car can only perform as good as its suspension and i will spend my money into a good suspension setup and then work my way to the motor. If you plan on having a good street ride and would like to take the car to the drag strip and also autocross often, i would recommend Tein fullbody coilovers. upgrade your swaybars, bushings and get upper strut tower bars (Front and rear).

then I would look into the brake system. Upgraded rotors and brake pads. If you are rolling in money, then you might as well look into the GT series from Brembo.

now that your suspension and brakes are taken care off, you can move onto the engine.

a proper CAI, free flowing headers and a 2.25" exhaust system will provide the response you are looking for.

then comes the biggest question of if you are wanting to stay NA or go Forced Induction......... Which will be a whole another can of worms.
