A teacher cannot walk up to you and say, "I like your bag, give it to me" and then keep it.
They CAN say, "Give me that slingshot" (or whatever illegal item you may have) and take it from you. If it is a dangerous item, they do not have to give it back. If it is something that is distracting to class, they may give it back at the end of hte day or the end of the school year.

If the student has something in the classroom that is against school rules, then yes, the teacher can take it. And in most cases, it will be returned when the parent comes to get it. This is not worth fighting because it's been a rule since I was in middle school some 15 years ago. As a matter of fact, it was a rule when our parents were in school.

If their belongings are prohibited from school grounds or disrupting the class, I'd say so.
You can probably retrieve a cell phone at the end of a day or week. Ask your adviser what to do to get your stuff back. And apologize to the teacher and the class for the disruption.

They have a right to take them if they are distrubting the class with the object, but they can't take it out of the students hands or belongs ie: backpack, pockets etc..
But they have to return the item to the student when class is over.

If it is something that is against the school rules to have then yes, and a parent might have to come pick it up. school is for learning, not bringing things from home

Not permanently, she would have to give them back at the end of the school year, or I would file charges.
