Well, I for one, think Black History Month supports racism & segregation. So does BET. Black History should be taught in schools throughout the year, not just once a month, and in fact all cultures should be taught. White people are not the only race in America that have impacted this country. Yet, all we learn about are the white man's accomplishments, then for one month we learn what the black man accomplished, and in November we learn about Native Americans. How can we ever hope to accomplish equallity when we are still seperating cultures in America? We need to learn AMERICAN History. Not White American History, and not Black History for ONE month. Throughout the year we should be learning about all cultures that have impacted America's growth! Another thing that I believe supports racism is affirmative action. I believe in equal opportunity, not equal outcome. It is unfair that someone less qualified should be hired or picked for a University based on a lower standard for the race. It supports racism in two ways. First, it assumes that people in that race can't handle an equal test score, and second, someone more qualified does not get picked because of skin color. It's unfair and it supports racism.

Nothing racial here ok, so don't take it that way.
I think it's because mexicans, whites and asians have not pushed the issue yet like the blacks have. Blacks wanted it, they spoke out and got want they wanted.
If the others want a history month, the will have to stand up and say something. In time, they will probably get want they want.

African Americans were the only ones shipped to the states for the purpose of slave labor. Asians & Mexicans (latinos) come here of their own free will seeking work and/or the American Dream. There's a lot of history surrounding the slavery and freeing of black americans.

in simple terms create the goddamn historic past month of your ethnicity and prevent asking this question. heavily no one is going to care. in simple terms create it. i comprehend there are different ehnic communities that struggled(the Irish absolutely everyone), so why can not they convey one? they could. the in effortless words individual stoping them is them. in case you created Irish, German, Polish, Italian, different eu ethnic communities historic past months, you would not want a white hisotry month, b/c those said ethnic communities are white ethnic communities, hence you would have quite a few white historic past months. Blacks ought to apply the time period "black" hisotry month for his or her historic past, b/c unlike whites, maximum blacks do no longer comprehend the precise position of starting place in Africa that their ancestors got here from. So we ought to compete w/ an entire damn continent. i wish that answered your question. P.S. I absolutely haven't any appreciate for Jesse Jackson after how he dogged Barack Obama. Al Sharpton receives on my damn nerves. OH also, Latinos, have an awarness day or month(no longer positive which one), so as that contains Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, imperative individuals, etc, etc, etc.

Speaking as a (half) black person... I think that all races should have their own month. America is a melting pot, all of us should celebrate a month. As far as black people complaining for something, we organized and got together to get recognized. As for my (half) Mexican side, I will proudly do my part in trying to get a Mexican month. We got to pull together to make other races noticed. Only you can make a difference for your race.

Because Whites, Asians, etc. were not sold on SLAVE SHIPS like animals to rich white people in this country and others. I don't think that there is ANYTHING that this country or many others can ever do to apologize to the African American Community for the atrocities that were inflicted upon them at our country's most appalling period in history. We should respect their history and honor it EVERY day of the year not just for one month.

I have been asking this question for years.
From what I can determine, it comes down to one thing.
Politics.
The black community was always the largest of the minority groups in America. So certain groups and politicians catered to them to get their vote.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the future now that the hispanic community is surpassing the black community as the largest minority group in the US.

I agree.
The black people would say that white people were "racist" if we had a white history month.
And I guess that nobody really cares about asian or mexican history.
