Let's look at Chernobyl. Nuclear disaster in late 80's. The place can not occupied by humans, nor can we consume ANYTHING from the vast area affected. However, scientists have since returned and discovered a paradise. Renewed growth of trees and flowering plants and grasses cover the area with a new population of animals living in this "new" but contaminated oases. Their health is being monitored Globally... half way across the world people could NOT eat fruit harvested in Oregon that year. Varying degrees of cancer developed as far away as China from the epicentre. Traces of nuclear dust were found at both poles.
