I've done the drive twice now and would probably drive it again - some parts can be a little tedious but other parts are beautiful and worth seeing. It's nice to drive through the various keys and get a feel for them. Both times we have stopped at Islamorada for lunch at the Fish Company - it's on your right hand side as you drive through, next to a huge Outdoor World store. It's a great place to have lunch, sitting in the sunshine, and it breaks up the journey. If I was you, I would drive it and spend the extra money when you get there. Have fun, I hope to go there again some day. x

DRIVE! It's a beautiful, fantastic, magical drive across all those little islands. It's as much a part of the whole Florida Keys Experience as is Key West.
Usually whatever I choose is automatically the most expensive (food, jewelry, trips). Can't believe that you can fly, rent a car, and drive to Key West for $400! Thanks for the tip. I'm going again soon!

Hubby and I went to Key West last year ... well actually we stayed in Key Largo and made the drive to Key West for a day it was a beautiful drive. I kept making him stop so we could take pictures, we found a wonderful restaurant on on of the smaller Keys it was great!!! We want to go back and are planning to do it all over again so I think I would go for the drive!
Have a great time!!!!

No, the Everglades are nicely to the west of acontinual from Miami to Key West. There are rather some places of pastime in this trip. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo is relatively standard. in my opinion, i like Islamorada. i could flow to Google maps and start up with Key Largo and scroll down alongside the keys to work out what the accommodations are and websites of pastime. I stay in south Florida and each and each time I flow to this section, that's what I do.

It depends on how much time you have for the trip and what your frustration level is.
If you're in a hurry, then fly it.
