Super question! The word "pride" IS used two different ways...

The positive kind of pride is when you affirm your accomplishments. You give yourself credit and feel real good about something you achieved, whether large or small. This is THE KEY to building strong self-esteem, which is essential for quite a few areas of mental health and good interpersonal relations.

The negative kind of pride is when you refuse to open your mind to new ideas or refuse to take appropriate action because you are loyal to a set way of thinking or acting, and you don't want to depart from it. The refusal to do the right thing out of "pride" can be detrimental to self and others.
