I am not sure, but I feel I went into the wrong career. All I want in life is to make money, teach kids, and be happy. However, I can't have all this if I am in teaching. What to do?

I have a masters and a PHD doesn't make you more money in a public school, it only costs you money to get it, but nothing in return.

holy hell.. no one taught you anything.. your not going to make money being a teacher.. get over it.. if you want to make money off teaching get out of teaching.. get a real job in business, finance- and teach on the weekends for free..

Get rich? I don't know about rich, but maybe you should look into being an administrator. They make more money. I'd also look at relocating.

I've been teaching 8 years, no masters, and I make 51k.

I'd also recommend NOT spending so much of your personal money on your classroom. I'd seriously look into grants if your district refuses to front more money for supplies. I only spend about $300 a year.

I'd give up on the idea of being rich. Even if you write and publish on the side, as many teachers do, remember that public servants very rarely get the salaries that match their dedication.

If you have a B.A. or Master go overseas to teach. Teaching overseas for some reason is in a whole different league.. I was looking into teaching in Indonesia at an international school where all the kids are from expatriate parents and tuition is $15,000 a year.
Almost all the teachers have Masters degrees..
I heard you can make anywhere from 60-70 grand a year. Then balance that out in a cheap standard of living; you'll be living in the lap of luxury.

Have you considered a more-specialized teaching slot that will pay more? (Or, have you considered marrying a rich man, stay home, have children and teach them?) And, I assume you didn't go to kindergarten, have barely a bachelor's college degree for your 18 years of schooling--have you considered more education? Most people in most careers do not get rich.

whoa... what district are you teaching in? I wish mine paid 30 K a year! J/K.

I understand about paying for teaching supplies. It's sad when you have to include work supplies into your budget.

PS ... I work other jobs during vacations. That helps.

You need to changed districts. My district starts at way more than that right out of school with a B.S.
