IP addresses are assigned automatically by a DHCP server. DHCP servers generally are configured with a "lease" period to allow a device to obtain the same IP address rather than a new one. I don't know off hand how long Comcast sets that "lease" period for but I'm guessing it would be longer than a week. You could try looking at your router configuration page or computer if directly connected to the modem (use ipconfig /all from an MS-DOS prompt). The only way without Comcast intervention would be to leave your device disconnected from the network until after that lease period expires.

If your saying you were assigned a 'Static' ip address from your service provider, you have to call them to change it, and why?
If not from a DOS command prompt type: IPCONFIG and release it and renew.

It's probably a dynamic address, but on a lease of so long. You would have to unhook your modem for a while (probably a day or so).
