I assume the charges are assault or battery...I would go with Criminal law Attorney...and the best you can afford...and I would sue the school, because they failed to prevent the attack on your son, and whoever else and have them pay your legal costs...
Family law is most divorces, and such...but most are educated in all the fields but choose to specialize...

If he is charged with a crime as a juvenile: criminal defense lawyer.
If he is facing disciplinary action at school (including expulsion): a lawyer who practices in school law.
You should also hire a personal injury lawyer to sue the children who attacked him, and quite possibly the school, if either: (a) teh attackers were known to be violent or (b) the school was not adequately supervising the area.

Do you have a family lawyer? If so, call him up and ask him if he can do this case too. Some lawyers do all kinds of things. Look in the phone book at the ads and it says what they specialize in. Any good lawyer would also go after the school.
Good luck!

basically attempt analyzing even a small pattern of undesirable Christian postings on right here!!! illiberal, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted!! Eschewing training, technology, evolution works of fiction and a lot, a lot greater. Christians are the only faith opposing human rights and persecuting gays, professional selection and a lot greater - yet far worse at an analogous time as they call for freedom of religion they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them!!! sturdy christians that even have self assurance in a loving god dare no longer talk out against them in view that they then get persecuted far worse!!! Fundies are destroying the church from the interior!!

Presumably this is Juvenile Court. If your family lawyer does criminal or juvie defense, he can do this. If not ask him to refer you to a criminal defense attorney who won't charge an arm & a leg.

A criminal attorney is what you need. He's probably being charged with assault.
Best of luck to you and I hope your son is ok.

Not necessarily, check out what he has expertise in. If he is a corporate attorney, he would not be the best choice.
