Are you too wrapped in your own life that you don't care about climate change, war's in the middle east, starving kids around the world and so on?

For those that asked, I am doing nothing because I am one of the people who doesn't really care.
Most of what is happening across the world is history repeating itself and it will continue to repeat itself until we destroy the planet.

it seems many of you have mistaken my question for an accusation. As usual some of you have a chip on your shoulder about something.

I wanted to see how many thought like me.

I couldn't agree more Deadman - although I don't suppose my sentiments will warrant a 'best answer'. Fashion goes in circles and so does history. The idea that poverty can be eradicated is ridiculous, the ying and yang theory would suggest without poverty there would be no great wealth and I can't see that happening. There have always been starving kids, usually in third world countries were families consist of loads of kids and if a few die, they have some more. War is certainly a state of affairs that has continued throughout the ages, even the reasons for war are never original. I remember as a youngster believing my generation could change the ways of the world and I guess every generation since then has thought the same - just read some of the upbeat, optimistic comments on this site regarding war and global warming but then maybe I'm old or cynical or both!

Not me - not this month at least - when I go on Q & A it is because I seek thoughtful conversation.

And I like the idea of seeing good proposals on how to tackle the above issues get implemented - if only accessing MPs with good ideas were easier.

My two cents: climate change needs a strict emissions quota & tax, globally - if the US can't get on board, then we must put sanctions on them until they do. The same goes for the next richest offenders after them too.

Starving kids in Africa: at present birth rates this is an exponential problem - very hard to solve except through encouraging intl companies to make bases there

& wars in the Middle East - I have though up some great compromise proposals that could bring a fair & lasting peace to them (I reckon), if only a major govt would listen when I email them these.

I don't mean to sound heartless, but what's new? The earth has been warming for thousands of years, there have always been wars in the middle east and kids starving around the world. If you let this get to you, you will not be a very productive citizen when something out of the ordinary happens.

Sorry, but I care too much. My problem with world starvation and the middle east is that corruption comes from above and foreign governments and tyranny do not give people hope to give of their money - to see all these despots running about in Rolls Royces and Swiss bank accounts. For instance, I do not see Tony Blair intervening in Zimbabwe. Maybe if our leaders had some integrity, we would follow.

If we could do something meaningful on climate change, I would. Problem is that there is no definite proof that it's man made. Starving kid around the world are the victims of the socialist, dictatorial governments they live under. We can only free one or two countries at a time.

I'm more worried about keeping a roof over my family's head and food on the table on a low income whilst Britain slowly goes down the drain.

Climate change= solar activity= natural cycle...it happens
War in MidEast= necessary for national security, peace is preferable, but currently unrealistic
Starving kids= sorry, but if people have kids that they can't support, they don't deserve to live. Social Darwinism. Not heartless, just realistic.

With the human population doubling approximately every 50 years -

1900 - 1.5Bn
1960 - 3.0Bn
2000 - 6.0Bn
2050 - 12.0Bn ?
2100 - 24.0Bn ?

Nothing we do for human welfare or the health of the environment will be the slightest bit of use, unless we find a rational way of controlling our population.

Ask yourself this. Does it matter? Earth has been around for about 5 billion years. It has about 5 billion years to run.

Mankind has been around for about 500,000 years in any recognisable form. Are we so arrogant as to think that we actually matter in the greater scheme of the Universe?
