A pregnant female won't kill a male, unless perhaps they are newly introduced to one another. If she is pregnant and introduced to a new male, she could fight (possibly) kill him if she's trying to protect her territory. A hamster is the most aggressive when it's pregnant or nursing a litter.

Another reason to remove the male is that dwarves will breed very soon after giving birth. This means back to back litters. It is not unheard of for a female to have a second litter before the first litter is even 3 weeks old. Breeding like this is harmful to the female. She would not breed this frequently in the wild but is being forced to in these domestic situations.

I do not condone any casual breeding though it can't be avoided when a female hamster is purchased. If you're worried about the male getting hurt and injured, I would separate the two into their own cages. Even if the female doesn't kill him, she could injure his eyes, tear apart his ears, injure his genitalia (a favorite target for fighting hamsters), scar his face. I have quite a few hamsters with these war wounds. You know the saying, "Better be safe than sorry".

you should remove the male hamster before the babies are born he might eat them and to protect them the mom will put them in her cheek pouches and they will die anyway. the mom can and will breed with her sons as will the sons and daughters breed with each other. i dont know what kind of "vet" it is who also answered and said she will kill the sons after she breeds with them but we raised several hundred teddy bear hamsters in about two years and sons bred with sisters and moms and dads bred with daughters and so on. hamsters are solitary rodents who prefer to live alone and only be with other hamsters at breeding time, but litter mates usually do very well living 2 or 3 to a cage. then again we also had litter mates kill each other and any other we put them with. so u just have to be very observent and catch the fighting soon and seperate them. i guess that was alot more info than your question asked for huh? but i hope i helped you in some way.

mine didn't. though the male did start biting me every time i put my hand in the cage, which was met by me constantly flinting the hamster across the cage, but he never seem to get the point.

i thought they were both female until the day i saw all these pink things under the mother. i was like "ewwww".

i ended up giving them away to a pet store cage and old. "well my mother did" i would have like to keep them around for my cat which i got later. that would have controlled their population from spiraling out of control, and would have given my cat a nice play thing/food.

my cat doesn't get enough wild life out in the back yard, and i don't think he's ever killed any thing... poor cat...

point is, the hamster wont kill the female, or the other way around. unless it gets too crowded.

they should be seperated bcuz:
1. they will mate again soon
2. the female sees him as a threat, and will try to either kill him, or cannibalize the babies(that happened to me)
*don't touch the babies*

hamsters aren't good parents like gerbils...... so sad :(

she will not kill the male (male babies or male as in father?):

Babies - she will kill any baby if she's disturbed so try not to disturb her, I know it's tough when you feel the cage needs cleaning but try and push the cleaning as long as possible...

Father - well you should remove the father from the cage the reason for me saying this is simple, the father will get jealous and try and kill the male babies

Not likely but males have been known to eat the babies, but rarely.
