It is true It is Damn true Most people in prison are there on drug charges They also seem to serve longer sentences than most child molesters do

For the 2005 Fiscal Year In New Hampshire 9.9% of the inmates are in for Drug related charges. However, 49.4% are in for probation and parole violations, but not specified what their original sentencing was for.
Sample of other data found on the Annual Report:
Sex offense is 8.4%
Traffic offenses 6.8%
Aggravated Assault 5.4%
and the remaining inmates are in for other criminal charges.
But other than Probation/Parole Violations, the drug related offenses is the largest percentage of crimes committed.
In New Hampshire not many people can afford health insurance. There aren't many adequate programs or funding available for drug rehabilitation's. If the Department of Corrections and the Department of Health and Human Services would work together to come up with a solution, I believe the percentage of drug related offenses could go down.

I do believe that there are too many in prison because of drug charges, but I do not believe that they are the majority.

"Most people" is inaccurate. There are a lot of drug-related incarcerations, but they are not the majority.
I'm not sure of the actual statistics anymore, but there are nearly equal amounts of drugs-related, assault/battery, and sex crime offenders in US prisons today.

Not sure the exact numbers but it's a lot. We incarcerate more of our citizens than China and we're supposed to be the land of the free?
