You know, commercials that make you glad you have Tivo, commercials that are louder than the show. Commercials are geared towards a level of stupidity that is not representative of the average viewer. What are the advertisers hoping for? Are they mislead, like car dealers? I would think that creativity and quality would work better than annoyance and insipidness.

Have you ever noticed what or who they are targeting? It's the neanderthal thinkers that need to be yelled at. It's the impulse buyers they target most. Car commercials however are coming on strong with lots more class for the intelligent buyer. However, in the same token I saw a small car dealership that used to yell how well their prices are now are using mixed coloured couples and using testimony how well their bargains are. A trend? I don't know but some add agency told them it was a good idea.

I'd think alot of the quality depends on the company advertising. For car dealers, especially smaller ones, they don't have the money to spend on a big production. Hence, you usually see a boring commercial.

But commercials obviously work because they are there. Personally I think you have to be a bit weak minded to see a commercial telling you to buy something and then go out & buy it. But people do it.

Some of 'em are great though. I wish America wasn't so repressed. You see commercials on the internet in places like YouTube or on those TV shows that show the world's most outrageous commercials and I'd love to see some of them here in the States.

I think this is what they call reusing the old ideas. That's why commercials today lack of originality.
But it's something that we don't have to think about so much.
Commercials want us to buy their products, not get interested or entertained by their show.

Commercials back in the day were really good. Some are just plain classics. The ones that are on today are pretty forgetable!

Believe it or not - they use subliminal advertising. Like, females, colors, etc., Studies over the years reflect what attracts humans and they use it. Read up on the subliminal stuff and you'll find that its been going on for years and years.
