I am an English teacher and wanted to work with this movie "Yours, Mine and Ours" with 11 year old students...but I´d like to know a couple of serious opinions to make up my mind and decide whether I wanna use it at school or not. Thanks

Opinions are ok but some people are missundestanding especially the other teacher my position on this..you teacher should know there is a hidden curriculum..Well you know like Cheaper by the dozen , this kinda movies allow teachers to rescue values, make students see that bad things do not lend to good results..With violence installed in schools I thought this lovely family comedy could be suitable for kids these days..So far thanks for the reply.

I think its suitable, especially in todays world. It teachs that even if your parents aren't together and you become part of new family, how to overcome that and work together. Plus, it's just plain cute and the kids would enjoy it. Well, the ones that haven't seen it already.
If you are really concerned though, you could also ask the parents what they think.

What is it rated? Most schools I've worked at, won't let students see anything that's not G rated as protection against upset parents. Yes, they probably see worse at home, but the school isn't home. Also, as a teacher myself, I don't see the connection to anything in the curriculum. I'd be concerned about that too.

Here is something to consider. Why not go to the original version that was filmed in the late sixties starring...are you ready?... Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. Not only would they get one view of a blended family, but they would see two of the most humourous, tasteful performances from two great icons of the entertainment world. OK I'm going to go dig my copy out and watch it tonight before Lost comes on.

i... have not seen the movie...
first off, what exactly are you teaching? a lesson in not having premarital sex or you'll end up with all these kids?
maybe the 1968 version would be a wiser choice.
i'd rather show schindler's list to a group of 11 year olds before showing a silly movie such as that...

Its as much as you...you understand your son.

the best place to look are kidsinmind.com it gives you a straight foward description all the content in a factual maner. It also has a number rating system out of ten for sexual content, violence, language.
