Almost all constellation names in the northern hemisphere come from ancient Greeks. The scientist who first named these 48 constellations was Ptolemy in his book 'The Almagest' written in 150AD. Gemini was one of the constellations in this book. The reason this constellation is called like this is because in this area of the sky there are 2 bright stars, Castor and Pollux, that look similar to each other - in brightness, colour etc.
