Yes, you need an unlocked phone or a phone setup to work with your service provider. You just have to move the sim card. However, your service provider may replace for phone for little or no cost to you. I have Cingular and they have replaced my phones several times without charge. You should try contacting your provider before buying a new phone. Hope this helps. Good luck.

You can buy a phone off of eBay. If you are on a gsm Network(cingular, t-mobile etc) you can buy a UNLOCKED gsm phone. If you are on Verizon or another CDMA carrier you have to buy THEIR phones.
MAKE SURE THE ESN IS CLEAR!!! if the esn is not clear you will not be able to activate the phone.

Another option is buy a phone outright from a dealer. This costs from $200 to $500, it just depends on which phone you want.

Are you eligible for upgrade for your service currently? If you are you can upgrade your contract and get a discount on a phone that way. (does require another 2 yr contract)

Hope this helps!

My cellphone's has got a lot of frequent flyer miles that usually end up wrecking them. Get the model number, (remove the battery and it's usually on a little sticker underneath it), go to ebay and match up the model with a seller.
NOTE to any brain surgeons cell phone technology developers: Forget all the other CRAP on your phone and get back to basics. Sell me a cell phone /system that consistantly allows me to make a phone call and not drop it.

you have to make sure it will work with your cell provider but yes you can buy a used cell phone.
also you can buy a cell phone from your provider and if you dont take any discounts off the phone , buy the phone at full retail price, you will not have to sign a new contract.

It depends on the carrier. The trac-phones (pay as you go) that say Cingular on the package are compatible with other Cingular cell phones. You just take your sim card out of your old phone and put it into you new one. You can buy trac-phones just about anywhere. I just bought one for my son for $20 at Best Buy after his puppy chewed up his Cingular phone.

I wouldn't buy one off e-bay. I would buy one from your phone companie's store just to make sure it will work fine on your plan.
