A lot of people are bored and lonely. They feel that imparting their "wisdom" will help them gain attention, respect, and new friends.

I think this is the right category. However, in the case of Yahoo! Answers, the advice is solicited. It is quite different if people just see you walking along the street and decide to give you their thoughts (wisdom, so to speak). Unsolicited advice is as welcome as getting kicked in the nuts. I hate both. In this case, I'm imparting my wisdom onto you--only because you asked!

Well for starters, people come here to get advice. Secondly, people learn by either reading, and not too many people do that, or by learning from someone else. So in order to gain more knowledge they have to get it from someplace and since there are people who are knowledgeable in certain areas they just pass it along to someone who doesn't have a clue.

Because we all now that none of us is wise enough .Look at the world, see how technology is developing,science,maths, there is a crazy compatitive world out there and we all (unluckly) trying to keep the world's race ,and usually we are not enough for all,than we begin to accuse ourselves when we see the better .

It's just a basic human need to try to help the less knowledgable or the less fortunate, I suppose...

because it makes them feel better about themselves... you always want to be one step up from someone. if it's always one certain person, you could take an inititive and tell them that you appreciate their input, but you do not need it right now.
