what is the deal with silicone wax? how come some wax have it and some don't?

I own a detailing shop, i am wondering why some car wax are flaunting that they have silicone on their wax and some don't have it. what is the deal with it?

i would avoid silicon , most of the top end paint shops have " silicon free zones " it apparently messes up the finish when painting, so using it in a wax would make things tougher during any future re-paint.

Of course the answer is MARKETING, as there is probably no significant benefit to using silicone wax vs. carnuba or synthetic. It all comes down to a matter of preference and what you want to pay for.

I personally like the Turtle Wax Liquid Ice as it goes on nice and smooth and doesn't discolor or leave white residue on trim and crevices. In fact, you can actually use it on trim and plastic and it will make it look like brand new again. You can also do several coats if you are in the mood and the shine will actually deepen.

I am a car fanatic and have probably owned every car wax known to man in the past 10 years. From 3 dollars to 30 and never saw a really large difference in the end result. But if they can get us to believe that our beautiful car can somehow become any shinier we fork out the dough (I am guilty on this one) and get out our terry cloth towels.

ICE... Try it and let me know what you think. I also recommend the DuPont Teflon tire shine as it dries and does not rub off. You need to use a good tire cleaner first or it will not absorb into the rubber but it is worth the effort. Your customers will love it, and it lasts longer and doesn't fling all over everything.
