Why is the front of the house with the big porch always faceing the road? How come the best looking part of the house, doesn't face the back yard? Everyone spends more time in the back yard then the front yard, yet the best looking part of the house is in the front yard. Why?

My house is built that way as well. I have no idea why that is. My driveway comes to the back patio and if you wanted to reach the front door you'd have to walk down along the whole side of the house.

Because historically porches are in the front for a good reason. Before we became antisocial suburbanites going to walmart, and other national conglomerates, we used to have a thing called community where people would know eachother and socialize. There was no computer or TV, so people would hang out on their porches and neighbors walking by would come to the porch and hang out too. So instead of sending junior to tai chi lessons, and tending to the lawn, we actually used to hang out with people and build community.

Most houses i have seen have a FRONT and a BACK porch. unless then are the city houses with balconies in the back. My back porch is much bigger than my front along with all my neighbors. We spend more time out back, becuase its a nicer view and because the back porch is bigger. It just depends on the house.. I live in a much more modern house i guess...

Most people want people to be impressed with their house, so they put the best side forward. The majority of people who see a house don't see the back, so people who design houses put the main focus on the front.
