I think that ethiquette today is defined as to what we feel comfortable with. I always use a spoon to eat rice, because it keep falling off the fork.

In the west the spoon is only used for soup or puddings and things like that. We cut with the knife and eat everything else with the fork. Rice we eat with a fork.

Fork and spoon is mainly used for dishes that are to be cut and picked to eat. Rice is something different and you can eat it either with spoon or fork. Now that Americanization has taken over, these rules are fletched to a great extend.

When you eat rice with the fork, they use it with right hand!!.
the British drive on left side and the Americans on right. they keep the fork on left side and the American keep on the right. British switch on by pressing at the bottom and the American do it by pressing on the top. The doors are opened by right hand to your right and vice versa. there is a deliberate defiance in these cultures and etiquette's. Do not ask me why. I can site many more ....

I've forgotten my etiquette after all these years. I mostly eat with my fork, sometimes use the knife if needed, and never use the spoon unless there's a dip with the appetizer or soup. They're all utensils, and if you need to utilize them, then do it. I've eaten at many fine dining places and not worried about it.

Except for eating peas off a knife. Now that's weird.

You are correct about the spoon. I have also noticed this. I assume with the laxing of standards in ethiquette, whatever it takes to get the food to the mouth, is what you use. It seems that excusing oneself from the table or when you pass in front of someone has gone out the door also. I still say it and will continue to abide by it as will by kids. Thanks for the question!

What are you some famous a** celeb? NOT! Because they do not have the best table manners themselves. And anyways let me guess you must eat pizza with a fork and knife.

putting elbows on the table talking with food in mouth reaching for dishes instead of asking that they be passed not placing your napkin in your lap cutting up all your meat at once so it looks like kibble refusing a dish and telling your host (or whomever did the cooking), "No! I hate that stuff!" (give a nice excuse, instead) blowing your nose talking loudly gossiping or being very negative in your conversation leaving the table as soon as you finish eating not complimenting or at least thanking the cook leaving the table without offering to help clear and wash up leaving a lot of food on your plate
