A baby can hold their own bottle at anything from 6months onwards. but shouldn't be left alone when eating at any time.
NEVER put cereal in a baby bottle! It can cause choking and is completely unsafe, it also hinders the babys suckling action as the food collects at the opening of the teat, making it more difficult to get the milk.
If you are feeding your baby cereal, they should be over 4 months of age, try waiting until they are about 6 months though, a child should be able to hold up its own head and should only be given food from a spoon. not a dummy or a bottle.

Cereal is junk. Skip it.
Start with fresh soft fruits and well steamed veggies when the infant starts asking for food.
My son started solids around 8 months.

I agree, cereal is just junk. Start solids anytime AFTER 6 months. If you baby doesn't start until later, that's just fine. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. My son was never fed pureed foods or fed by myself, he has always fed himself. He started on solids at 7 1/2 months and his first foods were cubed avacado, soft cubed sweet potato, soft cubed carrots, cooked cubed white potato, brown rice, whole wheat macaroni, cubed peaches, grated cheese, cubed pears.

It depends on the mobility of the baby, some babies development is different from others so baby will decide that.
