Morphology is "the study of morphemes and their different forms (= allomorphs) and the way they combine in word formation" (Richards, et al.: 184).

Words are essential in communication (spoken and written). Therefore, if you know how words are formed ("unfriendly" = prefix "un-" + adjective "friend" + adverb "-ly"); combined (cold-blooded, warm-blooded, duty-free, etc.), pluralized (house/houses, pronounced with a /z/; louse/ lice; woman/women; runners-up, etc.) it makes it easier to write anything (an essay, a narrative, a lecture, etc.) and, then, to read it aloud (if you need to).
