I am also pregnant with my first. I have been putting together a nursery for my little girl, but plan on having her in my room for the first couple of months or so. Good Luck and Congrats!

I have a 2 1/2 month old. During my pregnancy, we lived in a two bedroom apartment, but our landlord kicked us out while I was still in the hospital with my daughter. So we had to move into our friend's two bedroom trailer and she slept in the same room as us. Most people will keep an infant in their room for at least a few months, but eventually you will want to have a nursery for baby. My advice is to move before you have the baby, it's so much harder to do after the baby is born. We just moved this past weekend and my apartment is a shambles. But with my brat being herself and her dad at school all day, I don't have hardly any time to get stuff done, and when I do, I'm so tired I sit on the puter for a few minutes and before I know it she's up and ready to play. Plus, if you move while you're pregnant, you get the added benefit of not having to lift heavy boxes, you pack and unpack :D. Even if you don't use it at first, it'll still be nice to have someplace for all the baby stuff you invariably end up with. A crib and a full size bed don't seem to fit very well into many rooms. Then you'll want a swing(they're a godsend, trust me). You'll end up with a stroller, carseat, maybe a bouncer chair and high chair. So the best thing to do is to look around your apartment and envision all the things that will be added and how cluttered it may end up being. If you can't stand a clutter, it's a good idea. And there will come a time, no matter how much you love your child, when s/he will cry like the dickens and nothing you will do will calm him or her down, and you'll have to put him down and let him cry because you'll need a few minutes yourself. So it's good to have a spot just for baby. There's some of my feelings on the subject, having lived in both situations, I thoroughly enjoy having a nursery for my daughter, she actually slept through the night in her crib for the last two nights. So good luck to you and your little one!

I had a nursery for my baby, but she slept with me most of the time because we breastfed and it was much easier to co-sleep while breastfeeding. She moved back into her own room when she was 15 months old. While she was a baby, she did sleep in the nursery for naps during the day and the first part of the night.
I have known many parents who keep their baby in their room for the first few months or the first year. Having the baby sleep in your room is a decision you and your boyfriend will have to make together based on how you both feel about that situation.
Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!

I didn't want my son to sleep in bed with us at all, but I wound up allowing it for a couple of weeks until he settled into his new surroundings. You'll get a lot of debate here, and it can get heated. There are safety concerns on either side of the issue, as well as convenience concerns.
You need to take into consideration whether you will be breastfeeding, how large your bed is, what kind of sleepers you and BF are, etc. If your room will hold a separate crib, that might be a good compromise for now.
A nursery worked for us. You need to choose what will work for you. There's no right or wrong answer. The good news is that you have plenty of time to decide.

I myself am about 40 weeks along, and am still not sure what habits I'll fall into. We did buy him his own crib though, in his own room. And I'm planning on using a bassinett just until he can sleep through the night. I want to keep him out of the bed if possible, only to avoid future hurdles that could be bigger and harder to overcome ... like an older baby who can't sleep on his own. I'm not judging anybody who made the personal decision to have their babies in the bed with them ... but I see a lot of parents struggle with their children sleeping on their own, and it can be a difficult situation made more difficult the older the child gets. In the end you'll decide your own comfort level ... just like i'll decide mine. It's still a little early for you to be worrying about sleeping situations. I didn't start decorating the nursery until I was about 25 to 30 weeks along. Utilize this time to read up on pregnancy and the healthiest ways to live for your little one.

My daughter had her own nursery and I didn't want her sleeping with us because I knew it would get harder as she got older. I always had the baby monitor right next to head because every little noise I heard I would jump. I think the babies own room is the best bet especially for when they get older because you don't want them sleeping with you when they are older. I hope this helps you and Good Luck.

My baby slept in my room for the first 5 months. She is now 5 1/2 months and is now in her room in the crib! What a transition, when you're not used to it... I guess keeping a baby in your room for that long can create a bad habit, but it's up to you. It's good to have room I think... It helps when you need privacy and are back to the love making!

I did both, I had a room fixed up for the baby, but for the first 6 months she slept in a bassinet in my room.. That way I could get to her easy in the middle of the night to feed or anything else she needed.

I had my baby
sleep in his own adorable nursery within earshot of our room
babies make all sort of squeaks, snots, hiccups when newborn
every sound will panic you into checking on the little one
AND it will harder for the child to get used to sllepin in its own room/bed later on
