What you are not talking about is why the friendship ended. You have what is called "unfinished business" with this person.Until you understand why your relationship with this person ended, you might be haunted for a long time. What you are doing is obsessing and this is not healthy. See if you can email, talk, or see this person and discuss why you are so distant and what you want to do about it. It is amazing how people split apart and completely misunderstood the other person's point of view.. We tend to feel that people think just the way we do but if you listen to the other person you will find that they dont think like you at all. Something went dramatically wrong if this person and you are not contacting each other at all. There is a serious misunderstanding here if your relationship was as important as you say it was. If you fell in love with her and she could not reciprocate, you changed the friendship. I am not saying that this is the reason but you need to face what the reason was that your frienship ended. You need to know and then you can forget.

Well, when I found myself thinking about my son, I would turn the music up so loud that I couldnt think so I had to sing!
Also I would allow myself a certain amount of time daily to think about him...maybe 1-2 hours per day..then the rest I wouldnt allow myself to think of him.
It was so painful to think about him I almost took my life.
I didnt forget him and never will, but lived though it....He was killed in a tragic accident at 21...my life, my soul, my heart will never be the same but I'm healed.

you won't forget. Just tell yourself that it's o.k. to miss the good things. And that it's time to move on. Time will help. Just keep busy.
