Yes, it is too late for you to chart your bbt (basal body temperatures) this month because you most likely already ovulated. Many women have around a 28 day cycle and ovulate around day 14. However, every woman is different. When you chart your daily bbt, your temp will spike about 0.5 degrees F the day after you ovulate. Therefore, you might also want to use an ovulation kit or check for other signs of ovulation, such as cervical mucus that resembles raw egg whites. When you see that, you want to have sex on those days. However, my OB just told me to have sex every other day from days 10 - 20 of my cycle while charting my bbt. Sperm generally live for 2 days and men need about 36-48 hours for their sperm count to rebuild, so it's not necessary to have sex everyday. Some women don't like charting their bbt because you don't find out you ovulated until the day after, which is really too late to conceive because once the egg is released, it only survives for 24 hours. Having sperm already present in you will increase your chances of getting pregnant because the sperm has to fertilize the egg in the tube in order for it to implant when it reaches the uterus. Having sex every other day will keep a constant supply of sperm in you. The bbt charts are good to do though because they can be useful tools for your doctor to review if you don't conceive. They can see if you are ovulating and what day of your cycle you are ovulating on. I charted my bbt with all 3 of my pregnancies. I recommend fertilityfriend.com. You can learn more about charting your bbt and chart your temps for free on their site. Based on the data you enter, the site will tell you when they believe you ovulated. Best of luck to you.

You don't actually have to have a basal thermometer. In fact, a regular one might be better. Basal therms only measure a certain degree range. If you normally fall above or below that range, it would skew your results.

http://fertilityfriend.com is a wonderful resource that allows you to chart your temps. You can actually begin at any time of the month, so long as you know the first day of your last period.

Fertility Friend also gives you an email tutorial that explains the ins and outs of fertility and conception. It really is a wonderful tool.
