If so, state reason such as an alternate source of income for the government when regulated or that it would prevent low-level offenders from being placed in jail, costing more money, and turning into hardened criminals. How many people ever OD or killed someone after smoking up anyway....

An alternative question would be 'Why should it be illegal?'

Arbitrary laws only serve to cause disdain towards all laws. If a law is unenforceable or makes no sense it should not be a law. In the case of all drug laws, they accomplish nothing. Drugs are used constantly by millions of people and they have virtually no fear of ever being caught. At the same time, organized crime uses the fact that drugs are illegal to make billions of dollars in profits. In the end, the person who is going to use drugs in any event has to pay more for the drugs so commits crimes to obtain the money.

All drug laws are creating crime rather than solving them thus should be abolished and replaced with ones that make sense. For instance, if a person uses a drug, they are only harming themselves. In that case the legal system has no right to intervene. If the person steals or uses violence while under the influence of drugs or not, they are committing a crime and should be punished appropriately. "I was high/drunk/mistreated" are not a reason for an exception. They should be punished harshly.

We could save billions of dollars a year by addressing drug problems rationally. However, we don't and it ends up costing each one of us every day while helping to create a huge criminal class.

No it should not be legalized, however decriminalized would be an idea. Tax the hell out of it, make it available to person of an appropriate age. Make it an offense to smoke it in public, operate a vehicle while high, distribute it without a license. Pretty much treat it as you would alcohol. The nation would save a fortune on incarcerating those with minor possention charges, not to mention reap the benefits of obscene taxation.

Yes absolutly. If alcohol and cigarettes kill 600,000 people a year and remain legal, pot should be legal.
Forget revenue(although it's a very good point), the drop in domestic violence alone warrants the change. Stoners might raid the fridge at worst, physical conflict is too much effort. But there is a high correlation between alcoholism and domestic violence. Hardly a coincidence.

Standardize it, legalize it, tax the hell out of it.
The main problem with ordinary pot, not the juiced up kind, is that it makes you slow and unambitious. But it doesn't make you beat people up or angry, just a little paranoid at times.
I just hate social crimes, whats the point of ruining a mans life with a record for weed when its not necessary?
Or running an old lady in for smoking to relive her cancer pain?
Or glaucoma? Surely we have better things to do.
And for those who say its a gateway drug, well so are cigarettes and alcohol, if you are dumb enough to abuse them. We can't go back to Prohibition, we know how that turned out.

you know I heard this rumor that american leaders a long time ago didn't like that the african americans were growing marijuana and making money off of it. Also, that African Americans did it. Thats why they outlawed it. They didn't want them to make a profit out of it.

Either marijuana and alcohol should both be legal or both be illegal. You can't win the 'war on drugs' with the enemy firmly in your trenches (AKA legal alcohol). Telling kids one is evil and one is not is silly. They can see the difference in behavior in friends on one or the other. Alcohol is far worse on society.

Of course it should. It is no more harmful than alcohol or tobacco, and probably less so. It is certainly less addictive. Excessive use can be harmful, but you can also die from drinking too much water.
