I don't buy that spending more means you'll get quality though. I have loads of shirts and t-shirts, jeans and trousers that I have bought years ago and still look great now, wash up well, and I don't feel like a geek when I'm out on the prowl.
However, I once spent £135 on a Maharishi shirt - for a treat, I washed it a dozen times and it frayed all around the collar, and some Diesel jeans one of my girlfriends bought for £120 only lasted a year.

i spend about £40 max, i tend to buy branded stuff as id fits better and lasts longer, basic tee's and underware ill just get cheap stuff but i feel better in a brand, it helps my self confidence as i never had any when i was younger.

It is a little silly spending stupid money on small things like t shirts, especially if you havent got the money and it will be out of fashion tomorrow!

Not for a tshirt I only wear tshirts to workout, cleaning or sitting around the house in.
I'll do it for a skirt, pants especially a well made classic piece as I know it will last for years.
(I have many pieces I can say I bought years ago and wear to work where people ask if it's a new piece),
it won't fall apart like cheap/trendy crap that will fall apart after a couple of washes and out of style next year, plus I'm materialistic like that and I can afford it and my husband indulges my shopping, he'll even suggest something more expensive if I may try to go on the cheap.

I'd rather spend $100 on material and make several shirts and skirts. Because sewing is more rewarding than shopping in some store where the sales employees hound you like vultures t get you to buy a certain item...

Spending money on clothes is for the quality and/or the style and design. Somethings you find, you can not always find cheaper. Now for a plain t-shirt, go cheap, but for other things like skirts, pants and other shirts, spend the extra.

if you really love the expensive shirt or whatever item, purse, dress, etc., and you can afford it, get it!!! ive paid too much for items of clothing before because they were really awesome and i couldnt find a similiar item cheaper. so it depends on how much you like it, if its worth it to you to pay an outrageous amount.

It is brainwashing, just like any other advertising. People want the most exclusive phones, labels, watches etc... but if you have the money why not ? We only live once.

Not me - I'd rather buy cheap and cheerful - that way I can buy twice as much and keep up with the fashion as it changes so quickly!
