Does anybody else think This is Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies of the last 30 years? For a film that is totally improvised.

it wasn't totally improvised (there was an outline and basic plot points that were scripted), but it is an excellent movie...
Christopher Guest and Michael McKean have also made other very funny "mockumentaries" like Best In Show, A Mighty Wind, and Waiting for Guffman.
Rob Reiner got too much credit for Spinal Tap (the kudos belong to Christopher and Michael).

Yeah, great film. Miles better than most of the so called comedy thats churned out these days from Hollywood

It's good, but not close to one of the best comedies of the last 30 years. Have you seen 'Best in Show', 'For Your Consideration', 'Waiting for Guffman', and 'A Mighty Wind'? Those are all really good, too.

I totally agree...and if you like it, I would highly recommend Christopher Guest's (Nigel) other movies:

Waiting For Guffman
Best In Show
A Mighty Wind
For Your Consideration

They're all fantastic...

Absolutely!! I think you had to be around during the "hair metal" days to fully appreciate it. That Stonehenge part was my favorite!
