I'm just about 20 weeks pregnant and think I may have developed Bronchitis from a terrible cold/flu bug that I originally had. Is there anything that the doctors can use to treat this? I don't have a GP, just my OB/GYN since my GP retired recently and haven't found a new one I like.

I'm miserable - I've coughed so hard I've gotten myself sick, I can hardly breathe, even with a Vick's Vaporizer and those breathe right strips. Any suggestions other then going to the doctor - which I'm planning on doing as well. I need a way to minimize some of these symptoms and get well enough to be able to work this weekend.

I called the OB/GYN phone nurse and she advised I be seen by a GP. Unfortunately none of the many could see me today. I went into Urgent Care (pretty much a walk-in/no appointments clinic) instead. It's a bacterial infection of some type, and put me on Amoxicillin to try to clear it up. The down side is they don't know what exactly it is. My oxygen levels were fine, and she said everything sounded and looked normal. Only reason she gave me the medicine was because of how long i've been suffering.

Boy Do I know how you feel! I recently got over Bronchits while being pregnant. Your best bet is to see a doctor. I couldnt get in to my regular doctor so I went to the ER. They gave me an antibiotic, and I started to feel better with in a few days.
Good Luck

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

This page it will change your life and make you feel 100% better within just 24 hours!

For the time being, call your ob/gyn and ask to speak with a nurse. She can tell you what you can and cannot take while pregnant.

I'm fairly certain you can take most of the over-the-counter stuff that is readily available (not the stuff that you have to sign for from the pharmacist).

Continue to use Vicks Vapor stuff and a humidifier. If you dont' have a humidifier, or it isn't doing the trick, try going into the bathroom, run a very very hot shower, put towels under the door, and sit in the steam for a bit. My parents used to do that with me when I had colds, upper respiratory infections, and bronchitis.

Find some lozonges and suck on them, or drink some hot tea with lemon and honey, to soothe your throat and hopefully tame the coughing for a bit. Drink LOTS of liquids.

I wouldn't push yourself to be all better in order to work this weekend. You have 2 1/2 days, and if you have bronchitis, that just may not happen. Your more important job is to take care of yourself and the baby.

Feel better!

I feel for you... I had bronchitis when I was 8 months pregnant with my first- it was miserable. The worst part was after the actual coughing I had... during all the coughing, my daugther didn't like the pressure the coughing exerted on her, so she'd push out with her arms and feet. This gave me pressure from both inside and out! I was sore for about a week after the coughing subsided, with bruised ribs. You'll have to ask your doctor for any meds that could help allieviate some of the symptoms... you don't want to take anything over-the-counter without checking with him first. Sorry, know it's miserable!

If you have Bronchitis the only way to get rid of it is with antibiotics. While pregnant you can use your ob like a GP so give them a call, they will probably give you something to get rid out it. I currently have a sinus infection and started meds yesterday boy do I feel so much better.
