I work with the Computer Information Technology branch of a major university. We recommend to anyone who calls asking this same question to stay away from vista for at least 6 months to a year while they work out the bugs and compatibility issues. Keep checking for patches/updates/drivers/new software that is vista compatible.
Good Luck!

Even with all new equipment Vista isn't working. Nvidia's top of the line video card doesn't even have Vista drivers yet.
XP at least until there is a service pack to Vista. Rumor has it Redmond was working on service pack 1 before it released Vista. Kinda stupid not to just hold off until the OS is ready, but that is the software industry today.

Most software/hardware still does not support Vista, plus it's still quite buggy. I would highly suggest staying with XP for the moment. Microsoft is ALREADY working on SP1 for Vista, so that says something right there.

DOS 1.0 it's the best!! It's free and fast to instal.
1) Microsoft have a bad reputation because they release the "true" version but it's like a betta. Customer report bug and trouble.... they fix the bug list with a big patch or a service pack and microsoft do a "re-release" for a big markecting deal.
2)vista eat ressources for absolutly nothing. Wow i have 3D! do realy need to see your internet explorer whith a angle of 45degree ? I know you can cancel 3d efect and "crap" like this. But if you desactivate all 3D funy feature it's like a win XP with more option.
stay on xp for this year (4-6monts = neew big pacht or sevice pack + 2-6monts to repair patch and service pack bugs) .

Since Vista is a very new operating system with new technologies, many hardware are not yet designed to work with Windows Vista. That's why your printer isn't working.

I think XP is better because Vista is having so many problems right now and I don't want to have to deal with that.

My Friend, beware of Microsoft new releases. They have a reputation for using the public for beta testing, finding all the bugs!

I read an article the other day that said basically "If it isn't broke don't fix it." If XP is working for you don't bother upgrading.
