i keep reading about how the american govt is spending this and that on healthcare, but at the same time, usa doesnt have any kind of universal healthcare, so what exactly are they spending money on? supposedly usa spends more on healthcare than canada, but canadians can walk into any doctor and get free service. i have never seen that happen in usa.

IMO no individual should receive anything from the government. Government should do things that benefit society, NOT INDIVIDUALS.

Medicare and Medicaid. Also perscrption drug benefits for seniors. Tax credits are also counted for companies that off health insurance. The reason we have larger healthcare budget than Canada is we have 9 times as many people. So even if we spent 12 dollars for every 100 dollars Canada spends on each person we will spend more than Canada.

Yes Canadians can walk into any doctor and get free service, but you have to wait forever. 50% of patients in Canada who are 65 and need to undergo hip replacement surgery take 6 months to do so. While in the US it takes at most a couple weeks.

Yes it is free for them when they walk in, but they make up for it in taxes. They have a 14% sales tax compared to an average ot 6-7% in the US. The average Canadian pays $7800 in CPP(Candadian Pension Plan, EI(Employment Insurance) and Health Taxes. Look at you tax return and I bed you don't pay that much in Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, and your healthcare. I paid $5600 in all of those combined last year.

So yes you can get free healthcare, but it still costs you money. It just comes from you paycheck rather than a co-pay. And you have to wait forever. If you are sick try seeing a doctor on short notice. Here you can, and your insurance will still pay.

I can't answer you in taxpayer Dollars but can give an overview of various health care sectors funded by taxpayer Dollars.

In the first place, only so much of American healthcare is under the US Government, which spends taxpayers' money. That's not something specifically laid out under the US Constitution. You'll find Medicare, TriCare, VA, active duty military medical services, and National Health Service Corps, perhaps others.

Most taxpayer-funded healthcare is through the individual 50 US States, I would think.

By the way it would then be States' taxpayers getting robbed by illegal invaders' use of healthcare services they don't pay for. Illegal is illegal whether it's rape robbery murder or anything else illegal.

I have no idea. I have been at my job for a year and a half and my insurance has went up 3 different times. That doesn't even include the Federal and State tax that I have to pay, as well as Medicare. Its getting to where I might not even be able to afford it.

as I understand it... the government of course has medicaid and medicare (and spends tons on them) but also gives tons of money to companies for research...

this is what I don't get...people cry that social medicine would hurt America when we're trying to find new drugs... yet our government seems to be already paying a large amount of the "finding new drugs" bill anyway? so if government is paying for it, it shouldn't really matter if health care is socialized or not?

Medicare. Veterans Hospitals. Research. Clinics. Immunization. I think you would be shocked to see how much we actually spend. And don't be seduced by Canada's system. It's broke.

Yes! We need a system just like the one in Canada, where you can die of salmonella waiting in the waiting room of one of their filthy hospitals, or if you are older, they just let you die because it is not politically or economically correct to keep you alive! Hooray! Why not universal euthanasia for everybody!!
