Run a scan with your antivirus, and also with spyare tools, if you don't have any, use the following:

Spyware Tools:

I answered your other post as well but one thing you can try is to type "control alt delete" and open the task manager. Select performance. This graph will tell you how busy you cpu is and how much disk activiity there is. If it is over 50% you have a problem.

Select the Networking tab and see what the network percentage is. Anything 20% or more is high but good. That wouldl mean your processing lots of network data. Of course if you are not doing anything in your browser this would be an indication that your machine is a "bot" and you'll need to do a though virus scan on the machine.

If you don't see a night-and-day difference between high speed and dial-up then something is defintely wrong. Maybe try and clear out all of your temporary internet files. That is under tools--Internet Options. You shouldn't have to reformat your hard drive or anything...once you plug into your comcast the internet should be almost instantaneous (at least compared to dial-up.)

You're going to get a lot of answers on this.

Get these programs, they are all free.

Ad-Aware - Personal edition.
Search and Destroy
CCleaner.

Search them on the net, download and run them.
This is simple and easy to do but it doesn't mean your problem will go away.

Make sure they settings are correct for your new connection. I'd call Comcast and have them check to see if it was setup correctly.

It should be about 100 times faster than dial up.

Fist start by turning off your computer and the cable modem.
Leave it off for at least 10 minutes. Then turn on the cable modem. Then restart your computer.

The cable must be plugged into an Ethernet port on your computer. It cannot plug in where you use to plug the phone line in. Ethernet cards often referred to as 10/100 ports in manuals.

Installing the Ethernet Card
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/USCS/NSG/nic/nic.shtml

Try these speed testc and compare with your Cable specs.

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

If it is slow have the Cable service come back out and stay until you get the speeds you paid for.

Is there something I can as far as doing a virus search or deleting files ................

Run "check disk" check both options and restart. (runs a long time)
Run Disk Cleanup then Disk Defragment.
http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/getstarted/speed.mspx

Run following

Malicious Software Removal Tool (run “full scan”)
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

Microsoft OneCare Live, run “full service scan”
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

Now we want to disable any programs from running when the computer starts that you do not need,

Open http://www.pcpitstop.com/
Select "Running Programs" or left side and run
All programs loaded when the computer is started will be listed.
"designates programs that can be disabled to improve computer performance, PC Pitstop Optimize disables these programs"

Start>Run>type MSCONFIG
Uncheck programs that can be disabled and restart. (This does not remove program and can be enabled anytime)

I recommend you install and run the following 4 programs and run weekly or as needed:

Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)
Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper After installation: update + scan + immunize
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click “enable all protection”. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SUPERAntiSpyware free version: (update + scan)
http://www.superantispyware.com/

Additional Tests Optional :

Rootkit revealer: (advanced) Close all programs first and then run.

Not all results will be malware! Google each item listed.
