I want to install windows 98 or xp in an external hard disk. Anyone know about it? If it is possible, please let me know.

Your computer has to be able to boot to a USB device (which would be your external hard drive). Just set it as the boot device. You might also need to install the driver for it during Windows setup (F6 near the beginning of the install).

Never tried it but I would image it would be ok. Stick the 98 or xp disc in, (while in windows) and it will ask you where you want to install it.
I dont think you can do this from dos or boot up, especially if your external drive is usb.

the reason the question became asked is that the BIOS has to have the means to bodily understand the gadget and present day it to the XP set up as a HDD , if the BIOS won't be able to try this then you quite won't have the means to place in XP on the exterior using this technique... in the adventure that your present day HDD will allow you to run residing house windows you're able to do an interactive set up on the exterior HDD yet i do no longer kn ow what the ramifications would be once you get rid of the inner HDD and whether or no longer there'll be boot records on the exterior HDD
