they say you can start weaning from about 4 months, but the best way is to let your baby guide you as to when they need more than milk to satisfy them, a good way to tell is if they are having more bottles during the day and also if they start waking in the night for a feed when they have previously slept through

Techinally, weaning is determined to have begun as soon as the baby receives his/her first solid.
That being said, the benefits of continuing to breastfeed are astronomical. Solids should begin no earlier than halfway through the first year and are mearly a compliment to nursing, not a relacement. Then sometime around a year or so, nursing will transition and become the compliment as well as a great stand-by that baby is still getting all the necessary nutrients to grow despite toddler appetite woes!
It's truly a personal thing. For a baby to receive 2 days of breastmilk is wonderful achievement...to continue until 12mo is fastly becoming the norm....and to surpass 18mo and go to perhaps 2 or more is fantastic.

So, the duration of your nursing relationship is totally up to you, there is no textbook timeline to be followed. Just know this: The benefits never STOP or become not worth it anymore. Unless someone has nursed a 2yo, don't accept there feelings on extended nursing :) I have gone up to 3.5 years and I'd be happy to share my feelings :)

I'd say anytime after the first year. Just do not base weaning on a situation that can be fixed. I weaned my 14 1/2 month old son because he was biting...and now I wish I hadn't :( I wish I had just kept working on the no biting and kept nursing. Breastfeeding is beneficial way beyond the first year.

they say that you should start weaning a baby at 6 months now, although it did used to be 4 months, you should just go with what your baby needs,if the baby is still hungray after a feed then you could try a baby rice or something like that, hope this helps

Try not to decide on a magic number, that my leave you dissapointed if you have different feelings later on. Do what seems right when the time comes. Some moms wean very early some continue to breastfeed until preschool. Any breast feding is better than none at all. Good luck...

Honestly it's a personal preferance. Nobody can tell you when. A pediatrician will say try until they are atleast 6 months. It's when you're ready. It'll be harder then what you think if you've been nursing for a while, but it is up to you. There is no right answer!

This is completely up to you and your baby. I nursed my second child, but weaned him to a bottle at 8 weeks - I gave him a bottle from the start so he would wean early.

If you choose to keep at it for a while, around 9 months is a good time to wean a baby directly to the cup. The advantage to this is that you don't have to wean them off a night bottle later.

Do what works for you. Good luck!

i partially weaned my baby at 4 months, i still feed him breast milk for breakfast, tea and supper and started feeding him jar foods for dinner! At 6 months he was weaned mostly off the breast, he only had it for bedtime! he is now 10 months and a perfectly healthy baby! When you do decide to wean your baby you must do it gradually!! As they get older you have problems with most babies eating habits anyway due to teething and finding out what tastes nice to them and what doesn't. hope this helps!!

Well it really depends on your baby. My eldest son was about 4+ months and my youngest was 3 and a half months having baby rice at lunch time to start with. Its up to you, you know your baby the best and you will know whats not working with him/she.
Good luck, just go with the flow.
