You are amazing, going to a foreign country, teaching, living on your own.
You are learning so much that will be so usable when you move on to your next adventure!
The only failure is the failure to try to reach your goals.
Keep at it, chin up...
Take in the beauty of China, the squalor and be grateful for what God has blessed you with!

Was it an actual panic attack, as if you thought you were going to die at any moment, with breathing problems? Whatever it was, you would be well advised to visit: www.relax7.com/7.php and view the section on panic, and the latest 6 blogs of Shan Eris on"tackling depression" at www.myspace.com and type "panic attack" in the bar near the top of the myspace homepage. When you learn how to find your centre of consciousness, you will well and truly be on the road to getting better. Things will improve; start making long term plans for when you leave China. There are online surveys that pay reasonably, but I don't know if they are available in China. Could you get extra work tutoring the wealthier students, or doing something else when not teaching? Let us know how things progress, and try to be optimistic. Don't be concerned with the absence of material things in your studio; with the internet, it is a library full of books, and friends you can have conversations with. Those things will come, with time. Aren't taxis relatively expensive, even in China. Consider getting a pushbike. Remember, it is many peoples dream to travel and work in foreign countries, and you are doing just that, take full advantage of all it has to offer while you are there.

You don't need to panic. However, people also should not tell you that everything is okay. If you feel your life is out of control, then it probably is. Yeah I read your post about the Beijing taxi. When you're overwhelmed, you start doing crazy things. Beijing is very fast paced now, and not cheap! It's like other big cities - very competitive. So maybe China is not the right place for you. Think it over. China will still be there.

Just relax, things could be a lot worse. Take a second to think about what you want for yourself and evaluate whether or not you think you're on the right path. If not, think about what you want to do and the best way to get to that goal. Things may take time, but if you're devoted and willing to sacrifice a little, everything will turn out fine. Hope this helps
