Lately I've been thinking about making baby hair bows and headbands. I don't know what heat sealer to use to stop fraying. I DON'T want to use the spray or glue. Can you use the one you use you on plastic?

Try to avoid glues altogether. Most ribbons are a plastic/ nylon combination. Check with your local craft store for a hot wire cutter. This unit uses a thin wire that is used like a knife to cut the ribbon. It actually melts it, sealing the ends from fraying. To see if your ribbon can use the hot cutter, tickle a cut end of the ribbon with a lit match. If the loose threads retreat from the flame into the ribbon, it will work.

For grosgrain and satan ribbon you can use a woodburning tool or a lighter. If you choose to use a lighter, set the flame and then gently run it over the end of the ribbon. If you would like to use a chemical, use fray check. Michaels, hobby lobby, and hancocks fabrics would have it.

You use hot animal glue. If you are thinking of quantity to be made, buy a melt pot of about one quart size.

Most wood working supply houses handle hot animal glue and hot glue pots.
