I'm British and I like the Americans. I like that you helped win WW2, that without you the world wouldn't be predominantely English language (especially for business), I find Americans charming, Americans create more than any other country, we have the internet and PCs to thank you for.
Don't ever make the mistake of listening to an English person complaining about Americans, they are bitter that their once proud country is a hive of scum with bitter in-fighting (I'm Scottish) and they have no morals. The biggest aspiration of an English is to get wasted at the weekend and marry a car sales person (and thats just the women)

I would never generalise about a nation of 250 million people - the idea that all Americans are the same is insane.
And the same goes for the Scottish Answerer who generalised about the English.
Nations and national identity are fiery topics - but the sooner people learn that others should not be identified by their nation, their race, the colour of their skin or their choice of religion, the better.
Making sweeping statements based on ANY generalisation is wrong and will not fail to cause offense.
The US has good points and bad points - as does the UK (where I've grown up in England - although my mom is American and my dad is Scottish so I'm pretty qualified to comment here!) and every other nation on this wonderful messed-up planet.
Let's all learn that every individual should be treated as just that: an individual, not a stereotype.

The short answer is 'YES'. I don't understand why the UK government has to run around doing what the USA government tells it to. Why the UK prime minister feels he has to kow-tow to Washington.
Someone has to stop the USA in their feeble and, as yet, unsuccessful attempt to take over the world.
I look at my multi-national Ceefax/Teletext every morning and half expect to read that USA has bombed Teheran with the 'full' backing of the UK.
This is lunacy. America Rules! OK! Not where I'm concerned. I'm not sure what I would do if the USA were to attack Iran, but I'd sure as hell think of something. I may seem to be part of the silent minority, but I've got a very loud voice if I choose to use it.
I'm not going to stand by and observe as the USA gain control of the whole world. I'm not alone. Right now I'm content to jab a needle in now and again, but I'm prepared to stand up and be counted if the slaughter of innocent men, women and children continues in what the USA government calls the 'war against terrorism.'

I'm sure it does make the America-bashers out there feel superior. The funny thing is--they're actually quite ignorant. Most people who bash us do so because everyone else is doing it. They follow what stereotypes they hear/see on the news, assume we're all gas-hogging SUV driving, pro-war, power-hungry, fat, lazy people when in fact, many of us aren't. It's sad, really. When I hear people saying unkind things about our great country, I just sit back and think, "That poor, ignorant person--if he only knew, he'd be singing a different tune completely."
I think also, a lot of it is a result of major jealousy. Yes, we DO live in a great country and we have (thank God and our troops!) many wonderful freedoms that other countries don't have, and I think they are supremely jealous of that.

I guess it is just a human condition to point out something that is so blatantly obvious to oneself and not to an an offending party. Not that i am suggesting that all the American bashing that is going on is justified.
But the sad fact is America is still in Iraq and is still apparently insisting that they are doing a service to this country by dropping bombs everywhere.

It's not the fault of most Americans, just the bible bashing Middle- ones and that imbecile in charge (allegedly). I do feel sorry for most Americans becuase it's true, they get a lot of stick. But if you can't sort out your media representations or your management, you deserve it. Take it with a pinch of salt and learn to laugh at yourselves. We inbred bad-teethed rained-on bad-at-sports Brits do!
