Q: Why don't they just call them Hoops instead of HULA- hoops?
A: They always were called 'Hoops', but in the 18th century, these men went to Hawaii and noticed how similar 'Hooping' and Hula-Dancing were, so they renamed theM 'hula- hoops'.

Now don't give me the Thumbs Down but I was told when I was a kid by a Retailer that the Hula Hoop was invented by some smoe in America after his vacation in Hawaii. Where we know where they are known for the hula skirts and swivelling their hips.
Of course this could be just a myth.
