I am hearing your words "sad", "tense" and "negative minded" as the 'loudest' feelings in your share. And I fully accept how easily you could have learned these feelings from your father, mother and grandfather, it may or may not be "genetic" but you are seeing how thickly it runs in your family emotionally and that is more than ample cause :-(

So I am suggesting you can choose to actively and consciously begin to displace the programs in your mind that you have laid down in there from your parents' and grandfather's examples. This will take patient and persistent practice at giving yourself the opposite good qualities to the unhelpful habits. Believing, as you seem to, that you CAN get out of this is actually the first powerful step towards actually doing so.

With me so far? OK. The opposite of negative thhinking is positive thinking. The opposite of sad is joyful. The opposite of tense is relaxed and peaceful. You can ask yourself what YOU can give yourself, from your own inner resources, your personal power...... which I bet is greater than you have recently been aware of.... to create more joy, peace, and positive thinking. What would be a positive thought that is true and that you can give yourself frequently over days and weeks and months? Others have suggested meditation and that is my way too -- and of course it runs deep in your Indian culture. Some people benefit by affirmations -- if you're one of these you might consider ordering the little book "Scientific Healing Affirmations" from http://www.srf-yogananda.org . These can also help you out of your physical illnesses. The SRF (YSS in India http://www.yssofindia.org if that's where you are) have Lessons to learn meditation too (same website, different clicks).

This is a dreadful condition. I also had this but much milder than you describe. When I was young the help wasn't available or I didn't know how to find it.

I hope the drugs are helping you, but they cannot be the long term solution.
You basically need to reprogramme your mind / retrain your brain, and that will be a long and slow task but it can be done.
You need the right help and support. (You may need to move away from people who cannot acknowledge your condition.)

I would suggest first trying to find a really supportive meditation teacher, perhaps a yoga teacher. At first you will need to meditate in classes as the group will be a support, but eventually as you get more skilled you will be able to meditate on your own and slowly discover you inner strength.

I believe that as you turn your attention inwards to your body, though it may be difficult, you will contact something inside which will help you pull through. Please trust that it will be there.

Yes it is possible i'm a 21 year old who has over come sevre bipolar disorder, what it takes is the right medication, lithium for me and counseling, once you go through that when you feel you are ready you can stop the counselung and then slowly take yourself off the medication, you have to rember you couseling and do it with your self, lots of self reflection and thinking about everything, just take it one day at a time, i have not had a relpse for 5 years now but i know that i suffer from this disease everyday just take alot of will power to do also find an outlet for your frustration depresion and happy times you gotta try to keep the bad time good and the good times low, i'm mean you have to control your ups and downs, you can't allow your self to go to high or too low it is not good for you, also if you get a therapist they can work with you on techniques of how to control your ups and downs.
i hope this works for you , and good luck

First, keep off all drugs to cure such self-infliced ailments! Resort to meditation whenever you find yourself in that state!
