The other morning, I was sick with this stomach bug that is going around...it really knocked me for a loop.
Well, my wife made lunch plans with her cousin that day...
So, as sick as I was, my wife INSISTED I come out of the bed/bath room to greet her cousin...so I made my way to the couch.
Some small talk insued, and just when my wife was leaving she said:
"I think I forgot deodorant" to which she inserted a finger into her arm pit, removed it and sniffed...
She noticed she didnt' have any on, and went into the other room to apply deodorant.
Her cousin shook her head at that gesture, to which I made the comment:
"You think thats gross, you ought to see how she checks to see if she has her period"
The cousin gave me a dirty look and left.
They went to lunch and she told my wife about the comment...My wife came home FUMING at me for disrespecting her in front of family and is quite angry...how do I correct this situation???

It might have been a tasteless remark but Disrespect?
She needs a little thicker skin.
Actually I thought it was funny and if you can't get away with a tasteless remark with family, well?
Use the guy mantra. " you're right, I'm wrong, I'm sorry".
Just chant it over and over, you do not have to believe it.
If that doe s not work suggest that her finger routine was
every bit as offensive as your making light of it.

Tell her that you didn't know that her and her cousin were such serious people, that you thought they could take a joke, say you're sorry and you will never joke in that way again. (say it with sincerity) That way she can look back and see what kind of stick in the mud she is really being. Her cousin sounds, mean, she must have something against you and blew up the joke and made it sound worse than what it really was. If it were me, I would've been laughing.

Your wife is acting like Molly Shannon's character, Mary Catherine Gallagher, a complete lunatic that sniffs her armpits when she gets nervous.
So, basically, your wife puts on her own little comedy sketch, then freaks out when a joke is made.
I think you need to sit her down and have her watch a clip of Molly Shannon.

You tell your wife to get over herself. If she's going to do something as gross as putting her finger in her pit and sniffing it in front of people then she better learn to deal with any comments that are made.
By the way as a woman I must say that your comment was hilarious. I almost snorted coffee out of my nose when I read it.

Yes, it was a little inappropriate but I thought that it was funny. If I were you I would apologize to her and her cousin, although I really don't think that it was that big of a deal. I would have just laughed at it if it were me but doesn't she think she was just a disgusting when she stuck her finger under her are and sniffed it?

You can't. Just never trust a women to have discretion when it comes to anything. Especially comments about your wife. You see pal, they are like a street gang. In it foe life from the day they emerge from the womb. Don't try and figure it out. Just accept it and learn not what to say at any given moment , but more importantly, what NOT to say EVER to a woman. They CANNOT be trusted. EVER, EVER, EVER! This friend was so eager to just talk about something that she didn't even consider your wifes, her "friends", feelings. NO DISCRETION WHATSOEVER.

Dude your wife is nasty, who the hell smells their arm pit in front of people?? If she thought she forgot deodorant why didn't she just go to the bathroom and check?
Personally i would tell her that checking her pits infront of anyone is nasty and gross. I would've made a smart *ss comment as well. Let her be mad, she'll get over it eventually.

You don,t correct it,it will get thrown in your face eveytime you have an argument with your wife along with all the other things you,ve done or said wrong in your time together,great .

She will eventually forget about. My now husband did the same thing in front of his family when we were in high school dating. We were at a holiday party when someone was making drinks and asked him if he wanted a cherry? He grabbed me and told them no thanks he already had his! I was so mad I slapped him.
But now we've been together 23 years and I can laugh about it.
Just tell her you under the influence of medication and it was your fever talking!
