I posted a question yesterday about the "mayonnaise" in the oil in my VW engine. There were two possibilities - a blown gasket (or worse) with coolant leaking into oil, or maybe, due to recent very cold temperatures and short trips we made with this car, it was just a lot of condensation - there was not enough heat and time for the water to evaporate.

I checked the coolant level and it looks exactly the same as before, which means that there couldn't possibly be a lot (or any) leakage. Also, I drove the car this morning and checked the oil - it's nice caramel color and there is no trace of gunk in it! There is still some residue under the oil cap, but not much.

Would you say I'm safe?

As I have told many people time and time again, always warm your vehicle up for approximately 5 minutes before you start doing your running and if you're only doing short trips, then save a few up for certain days and make it a long trip.

Short trips really do more damage than long ones. They don't properly warm your cars engine up, which just adds to a list of things that can already go wrong.

as far as the "Mayo" in your oil, take a look at the weather combined with short trips and add a good dose of not warming up your car, yeah I'd say it probably would start looking like it. The gunk under the oil cap though is more likely to be dirt and oil mixed, need to clean it up a little.

Good luck and your probably ok to drive just keep an eye on your guages and oil...OK?
