There is another alternative to buying MS Power Point or downloading the Power Point Viewer.
Go to www.openoffice.org and download their suite of programs for FREE. They have that is compatible with Power Point. The advantage is that the openoffice version allows you to edit and save any changes you make to the power point presentation. The Power Point Viewer does not allow you to do that.

Just in case, you should virus scan it in case it's piggybacking on your friend's email. If it's fine, you can open it using PowerPoint. If you don't have Powerpoint, Microsoft does have a free download of Powerpoint Viewer, which is a small program that will let you view ppt presentations without having the full program.

Sorry but .ppt (powerpoint) programs will not run in anything other then Microsoft Powerpoint.
You can use a P2P app like Ares or Emule and download MS office for free.

I'd suggest downloading a version of PowerPoint viewer from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=428D5727-43AB-4F24-90B7-A94784AF71A4&displaylang=en
