People doing video game design come from two different camps: those who studied the subject via software engineering, and those who studied it via computer art. The direction you take depends on your skills and interests. If you like math and science, then you may want to study engineering. If you like art, then you'd study art.
There are a lot of schools that offer majors that will lead you to working in this field, but one unique program is at Digipen. Linked, below. If, as you say, you're looking for something focused, I recommend this program. It's got an amazing rep.
Also look at the programs at UC Irvine, the Academy of Art University, RISD, RPI, MIT, Georgia Tech, Mass Art - really, any decent school with a software engineering program or a 2-D and 3_D computer art program may be an option, if they offer the right sort of coursework. Many don't offer specific degrees in game development or design, and yet you can still graduate with the right skillset if you are focused.
No matter where you go to school, make sure you do internships or co-ops while there, if you can. You will need to graduate with some real-world experience in the field in order to be employable.
Despite its mention in the attached article, I don't recommend the program at Full Sail in Florida. It's rep isn't very strong.
