You didn't say if you are a guy or a girl yourself.
From the wording of your question I will assume that you are a girl for my answer.
I am a guy, & have had plenty of female friends in my lifetime.
Most people ( exept the female friends) make the assumtion that I am only in it for sex with them.
I have had outside observers make comments after seeing me in public in the company of more than one woman in a breif period of time like "Gee you must be doing something right" or "Does your wife know?". When I tell them that that was just a very good friend then I get a "yeah right" in responce.
I have chaulked it up to their narrow mindedness, & I have gotten used to it. There's nothing that I can do to keep people from jumping to conclusions.
I don't plan to change my behaviour just to please the others who think that men & women only get together for sex.
I actually find that women make better friends than guys do.
So I hope your best friend feels the same about you, & considers himself lucky to have you as a friend. :-)

It is quite OK to have a male best friend. Best friends should not be categorized by gender. It is perfectly normal to me too.

2007!!! yes, I agree. It is a normal you can get. I have friends-boys and men that a lot different in age to me.

A best friend is someone who loves you for who you are and doesn't judge you. Loves you unconditionally and is there for good or bad. It doesn't matter whether it's same sex or opposite sex. That's a best friend.

I don't think it is weird. Best friends can often turn into romantic relationships. After all my best friend is my husband.
